أعلن وزير المالية الفرنسي رولان ليسكور، قبل اجتماع لمجموعة اليورو في بروكسل اليوم، أن أفضل طريقة لمنع تحقق تهديدات الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بزيادة الرسوم الجمركية بسبب غرينلاند هي إبداء استعداد الاتحاد الأوروبي للرد بقوة.
من جهته، قال متحدث باسم المفوضية الأوروبية اليوم: «تتواصل مشاورات مكثفة بين قادة الدول الأوروبية، إضافة إلى التواصل مع الولايات المتحدة على جميع المستويات».
وأضاف: «الأولوية هنا للتواصل وليس التصعيد وتجنب فرض الرسوم». وأوضح أنه مع ذلك فإن الاتحاد الأوروبي على استعداد للقيام بكل ما يلزم لحماية المصالح الاقتصادية الأوروبية في حال تم فرض الرسوم.
رسوم إضافية
ومن المقرر أن يلتقي قادة دول الاتحاد الأوروبي في بروكسل الخميس القادم؛ لمناقشة كيفية الرد على تهديدات الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بفرض رسوم إضافية بنسبة 10% على السلع المستوردة من عدة دول أوروبية حليفة ابتداء من الأول من فبراير القادم.
وقد أرسلت كل من الدنمارك وفنلندا وفرنسا وألمانيا وهولندا والنرويج والسويد والمملكة المتحدة عدداً صغيراً من الجنود في مهمة استطلاع إلى غرينلاند، في دلالة على التضامن مع الدنمارك، التي تقاوم طموحات ترمب بالاستحواذ على الجزيرة القطبية التي تسيطر عليها منذ نحو 300 عام.
French Finance Minister Roland Lescure announced before a Eurogroup meeting in Brussels today that the best way to prevent U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats of increasing tariffs over Greenland is for the European Union to express its readiness to respond strongly.
A spokesperson for the European Commission said today: “Intensive consultations are ongoing among European leaders, in addition to communication with the United States at all levels.”
He added: “The priority here is communication, not escalation, and avoiding the imposition of tariffs.” He clarified that the European Union is prepared to do whatever is necessary to protect European economic interests in the event that tariffs are imposed.
Additional Tariffs
EU leaders are scheduled to meet in Brussels next Thursday to discuss how to respond to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to impose an additional 10% tariff on goods imported from several allied European countries starting February 1.
Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom have sent a small number of soldiers on a reconnaissance mission to Greenland, in a show of solidarity with Denmark, which has resisted Trump’s ambitions to acquire the Arctic island that it has controlled for nearly 300 years.
